Book Study

The Heart of Christianity: Rediscovering a Life of Faith by Marcus Borg is the book selected for Trinity's Winter 2010 Book Study.
The book study will be facilitated by the Spiritual Formation Committee on January 10th, 17th, and 24th after the 9:30 service.
Exploring The Way: An Introduction To The Spiritual Journey : Participant's Book (The Compainons in Christ Series) by Marjorie Thompson was the text book for Trinity's Fall 2006 Spiritual Formation series.

Parishioners' Picks

These two books were suggested by Marcia Tucker and are highlighted in the 2008 SeptemberTidings .
Parishioner and author Mary Miller recommends this book. It is a fictionalized account of the life and death of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German Protestant theologian, philosopher, and author.

Forum Books

Trinity's Forum Ministry seeks to present diverse, enriching programs that promote discussion, deepen our spirituality, and assist us in integrating our faith as Christians into our daily lives through social issues, current events, history, church tradition, and the arts.

Below are books recommended by several Trinity Forum speakers.

Imam Richard Miller of Bawa Muhaiyadeen, Sufi Mosque in Philadelphia, presenter of the October 28, 2007 forum, "Spiritual Practices of Islam and Sufism" suggests these books for a deeper understanding of the faith of Muslims.

Books suggested by Rev. Marshall Shelly for the Oct. 14 2007 forum "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Drawing Sustenance From the Procession of Saints".



Books featured at the Fall 2006 forum led by Maya Kollman, Imago Therapy Marriage Counselor and Workshop Facilitator, who discussed why our closest relationships are often our most challenging, and revealed to us how these very relationships can ultimately be our most healing ones.



Forum speaker Johnna Frederickson's Da Vinci Code forum featured five book recommendations.

In his novel The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown often references a "Gnostic" gospel, that is, a gospel written by a particular early Christian sect known as Gnostics.


For an accurate perspective on the Gnostic gospels, particularly the Gospel of Thomas, Johnna recommends reading Princeton University professor Elaine Pagels' book Beyond Belief, as well as her earlier work Gnostic Gospels.

Johnna Frederickson also recommends Harvard professor Peter Gomes' book The Good Book, as an excellent reference on progressive rather than literal reading and interpretation of the Bible.

If you want to learn more about web construction for yourself or to consider joining the web team that helps keep this site current - this book is highly recommended for novices as a book that makes the process understandable and helps teach us the "language" of web construction.

Mindfulness Meditation - Companion Readings

The book: Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zinn is required reading for the 8 week course given by Jeff Harrison (a parishioner who has studied Mindfulness Meditation for over 25 years and recommends it in his practice as a psychologist to help clients reduce stress levels) If you feel you want help with stress reduction and you were not able to take this amazing course, please feel free to buy this book. It is an outline of the reknowned Stress Reduction program offered at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Other books listed in this section are just a small selection of reccomendations from Jeff Harrison to the participants of his lenten season course, now over. All of these books are wonderful in helping people learn how to be less detrimentally effected by life's constant barrage of stressors.
