Services

Worship at Trinity Episcopal Church is based within the tradition of the Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church. We seek to offer a diverse and comprehensive exploration of the full breadth of this denomination's liturgical resources. From Morning Prayer and the Daily Office to Eucharist in traditional, contemporary and progressive language; from Sunday worship that embodies a broad palate of musical genres to a new experience in traditional Anglican-style Evensong, Trinity seeks to keep the voice of praise and service offered up in its worship open to all who cross its thresholds. We strive in our worship to offer "something for everyone."

Please note: Trinity maintains a theology of the "Open Table." All who wish are WELCOME to join in worship AND communion at this Altar. You do not have to be a member of Trinity Church, nor of the Episcopal Church to receive. ALL ARE WELCOME!

Holy Week - March 29- April 3

Morning Prayer

The celebration of Morning Prayer has been a long standing practice at Trinity. Traditionally, we have celebrated Morning Prayer without Holy Eucharist, but last year we made a change to integrate Holy Eucharist into all Morning Prayer services. The change initiated a detailed discussion among parishioners, clergy, vestry and "Worship & Spiritual Life" committee members about Morning Prayer.

Representatives of Worship and Music, and the Rector presented recommendations to the Vestry for review and comment regarding the use of Morning Prayer as our main service of worship on the third Sundays of the month during the program year. In the Episcopal Church, the rector is given the task, responsibility and oversight of worship, music, spiritual formation and access to the buildilngs and is responsible for serving the entire congregation's needs in these areas. After months of feedback, conversation and work on the issue, the decision has been made with the vestry's input and support to establish Morning Prayer on the Third Sunday of the month at the 9:30 liturgy in the main sanctuary.

There are a number of reasons for this decision, and all of these factors were taken into account in the decision making process:

The 1979 Book of Common Prayer defines our primary form of corporate Sunday worship as the celebration of the Eucharist

The daily offices: Morning, Noonday, Evening Prayer and Compline are intendedfor use on a daily basis by the community, despite historic use of the rite on Sundays by the Church. This use in the past was most often due to the absence of a priest and the lack of availability of Eucharistic celebration.

We have received increasing requests for the service schedule to "regularize" and center around the Eucharist in recent years.

Over the past decade, the schedule for Sunday mornings during the program year has become for the 9:30 service increasingly family oriented due to the presence of Church School at this time. A celebration of Eucharist is more effective, and the preference of the majority of households offering input.

Due to the placement of events and celebrations in our program and liturgical calendars, we have faced in the past years the reality that no two Sundays in the church's program year bear any resemblance to the previous or upcoming weeks. This change is intended to provide a higher degree of continuity in worship for whole Trinity family.

Finally, we wish to undertake a mindful exploration of the committment of the whole congregation to the useage of Morning Prayer as our principle Sunday Worship. At the end of this program year we will look back, assess and review the changes we have made and either commit to our present schedule-or amend it to embrace the wider consensus of the parish.

As we continue to grow in Christ together, we will from time to time face the challenge of reviewing our wants and needs, weighing them against the wants and needs of the whole community. Throughout this program year, know that your rector, vestry and the leadership of your worship and music ministries is keeping this in mind. Offer your thoughts and opinions and keep us in your prayers as we seek to discern where God is leading us in worship both in the present moment...and into the future.

Healing Ministries

Trinity practices the early church practice in which Christians are empowered to pray for healing of body, mind and spirit in Christ's name through laying on of hands, anointing with oil and healing prayer.. James 5:14,15 and Luke 9:2 are the chief biblical texts for these healing prayers. Healing prayer is offered after Holy Communion on first Sundays of the month at both services, and upon request for individuals in the Trinity Chapel or at homes, hospitals, or other locations.
